The setup

Get a $5 Hostinger VPS

Buy any KVM 2 plan or higher. Hostinger is the most trusted host for AI agents like Hermes. Annual is fine here — they ship updates often, so the longer subscription pays itself back fast.

Install Hermes from the template

Inside Hostinger's VPS templates, search Hermes, click Select, and let it deploy. That's the entire install. A few minutes later you have a Hermes Gateway running.

Wire your Telegram (or Discord) bot

Create a bot in @BotFather, drop the token into Hermes, then grab your numeric user ID from @userinfobot and add yourself to the allowlist. Hermes only listens to you.

Plug in your model + API keys

Set OpenRouter or Anthropic as the brain (Opus 4.6/4.7 recommended for the heavy thinking). Add KIE.ai for image and video. Hermes uses YOUR keys, so quality scales with the model you pick — not a third party's cap.

Send your first message

Open Telegram, message your bot "Hi, what can you do?", and watch it inventory itself. Then drop a real prompt: "Write a 30-second viral script about what you can do."
